Innovation takes us to Queen's Award
Soon after issuing the Freeman Technology Spring newsletter we received news of our success in winning the Queen's Award for Enterprise 2007 in the category Innovation. This significant achievement reflects not only the quality of the Freeman Technology team, but also the firm partnerships established, and the trust that exists, between our customers and ourselves. Finding solutions to the many challenges that powder processing presents requires us to draw on your experiences, feeding them back into our instrument and application developments. Equally, we are told that our technology helps capture and formalise the experience that resides in every company, shifting the balance in powder processing towards science rather than art. So innovation is the key - in that initial vision, in instrument design and development, and in relationship building. We look forward to working with you on this continuing journey!

FT4 - the universal powder tester
With news of our award, a timely reminder of the FT4 Powder Rheometer's role in powder characterisation. The FT4 is now a universal powder tester that unifies three methodologies in a single instrument - the measurement of bulk, shear and dynamic properties. In doing so it delivers a comprehensive picture of powder behaviour, whatever the processing conditions. Armed with this information, processors are able to match powders and processes and predict the likely behaviour of a given powder under a specific set of conditions.

"Centrepiece of analytical laboratory"
The FT4 Powder Rheometer is proving to be a central piece of instrumentation in the analytical laboratory at the Enser Corporation in Florida, manufacturer of high reliability storage batteries for a wide range of military applications. In less than one year the company has run more than 600 individual powder tests and has directly applied the findings to production.

Hints & Tips 3 - experience
Continuing our popular series, Hints & Tips 3 focuses on how best to harness the acquired experience that exists in every powder processing company to make future processing even more efficient. It looks at the nature of experience, putting it to good use, and measuring and managing the outcome.

Specialist attention
If you were at Powtech or the European Coatings Show this year, you may already have met Dr Ludwig Schneider who joined the Freeman Technology team in December last year. In his role as Applications Specialist, Ludwig focuses on supporting customers in the German speaking areas. With a PhD in powder metallurgy, post-doctoral work on powder flowability and powder compaction, and experience in process modelling, his applications expertise is in demand! |

Conference papers update
'Measuring the flow properties of consolidated, conditioned and aerated powders - a comparative study using a powder rheometer and a rotational shear cell' presented at Particulate Systems Analysis 2005, is now published in
Powder Technology, Volume 174, Issues 1-2, 16 May 2007, Pages 25-33
In May we presented a paper at the French National Symposium on Powder Science and Technology. 'Measuring shear properties and normal stresses generated within a rotational shear cell for consolidated and non-consolidated powders' reported work carried out using the FT4 powder rheometer and is to be published in a special edition of Powder Technology. On the road again...
A hectic conference and exhibition schedule in the first half of 2007 now gives way to a slightly quieter period - until September that is, when we travel to Mumbai to exhibit at Interphex India and in November to San Diego for the AAPS 2007 Annual Meeting and Exhibition. If you'd like to arrange a time to visit our booth at either event, simply email info@freemantech.co.uk or call Reg Freeman on +44 (0) 1684 310860 |
