Instruments for assessing the flow properties of particulate materials

Career Opportunities

Senior Electro-mechanical Systems Designer

Freeman Technology supplies instruments for measuring the flow properties of powders. Our markets are worldwide and include many industrial sectors such as pharmaceutical, chemical, food, toners, powder coatings and cosmetics. We are a world leader in our instrumentation sector and winners of the Queens Award for Enterprise - Innovation 2007.

The continuing growth of our sales into Europe, US and Japan and our plans for other major world markets has created the need for many new staff including a Senior Designer with experience in electro-mechanical systems.

The Senior Electro-mechanical Systems Designer will report directly to the Managing Director and be responsible for providing the mechanical and electro-mechanical design resource within Freeman Technology.

Qualifications, experience and training:

  • Qualifications - good mechanical engineering degree and sound grasp of engineering principles.
  • Some hands on experience of machining and assembly of parts.
  • Expert user of 2D CAD systems. 3D would be an advantage.
  • Recent design experience on small mechanisms, drive systems and transducers.
  • Experience of moulding and fabrication methods for metals and plastics.
  • Proven track record as a designer.

Detailed responsibilities will include:

  • Working with and enhancing our ISO9001:2000 management system.
  • Preparing design specifications, design schemes and costing information for management review.
  • Assessment and development of prototypes and monitoring of initial production batches.
  • Preparation of all manufacturing information including detailed drawings, parts specifications, assembly and test information.
  • Providing engineering support to production as and when required.
  • Provide production build and test information to support existing products.
  • Analysis and resolution of field problems where these relate to engineering issues.

Required attitudes or responses:

This role requires a person who really enjoys engineering design, has a sound knowledge of engineering principles and a positive and ‘can do’ attitude to design challenges. Whilst the role will require close co-operation with all company departments, it requires the ability to work independently once product and design specifications are agreed.

The package:

The company is located in a rural setting at Castlemorton Common, under the Malvern Hills and offers an unusually attractive working environment. The package includes excellent pay, a discretionary annual bonus, pension, holidays and opportunities to grow with a rapidly expanding company.
