First time at EAS 2012 for Freeman Technology and the FT4 Powder Rheometer

Freeman Technology will be a first-time participant at this year’s Eastern Analytical Symposium & Exposition which takes place November 12-14 in Somerset, New Jersey (USA). The company will be exhibiting the FT4 Powder Rheometer® on booth #229, and Managing Director Tim Freeman will contribute to the conference, presenting ‘The characterisation of bulk powder properties for pharmaceutical manufacture – the need for a multivariate approach’. This is part of the ‘Pharmaceutical Analysis of Quality by Design and Automation’ session on the afternoon of Tuesday November 13th.

Tim Freeman’s presentation will discuss how recent advances in powder characterisation allow the measurement of a range of powder properties that can be used to predict material behaviour during processing. This understanding permits the optimisation of equipment settings to achieve compatibility between the powder, the process and the drug delivery system. Using case studies he will illustrate how a knowledge of powder characteristics can assist with managing process behaviour in mixing, hopper flow, and die filling applications, and how this information can be fed back in at the development stage to provide processability specifications, facilitating true Quality by Design.

Freeman Technology provides systems that measure powder flow properties, underpinning process and product understanding, and supporting the optimisation of powder processes. The company’s FT4 Powder Rheometer is a universal powder tester that uses patented dynamic methodology, automated shear cells and bulk property tests, including density, compressibility and permeability, to quantify powder properties in terms of flow and processability. It delivers data that maximise process and product understanding, accelerate R&D and formulation, and support process optimisation.
