Precise characterisation for an exacting application - powder flow testing for Additive Manufacturing

Over the last decade, it has become clear that the processes involved in Additive Manufacturing (AM) or 3D printing are exacting in terms of which materials will process efficiently. At the same time, our understanding of how to identify powders that will print well has grown and today the FT4 Powder Rheometer® plays a defining role in the testing of many AM powders – metals, polymers, ceramics and even pharmaceutical formulations.

Jamie Clayton, Operations Director at Freeman Technology, contributes to this month's Powder Flow Insights series with a post looking at the importance of bulk powder testing for AM applications and what we’ve learned about specifying materials for this still relatively new manufacturing technique.
