Tim Freeman, Managing Director, and Dr Xiaowei Fu, Product Specialist at Freeman Technology, will deliver four oral presentations relating to aspects of powder characterisation and critical powder handling issues at the 7th World Congress on Particle Technology (WCPT7) taking place from 19-22 May 2014 in Beijing, China.
Tim Freeman is an invited speaker at the Particle Design: Formulation and Processing session, where he will present ‘A QbD Approach to Continuous Tablet Manufacture’. This talk will focus on the use of powder characterisation to measure material properties that directly correlate with the quality attributes of a finished product to support the development of continuous processes. In further presentations, Tim will cover the topics of ‘Understanding the mechanisms of particle interactions and powder flow’ and ‘Powder Flow Characterization – the need for an instrumental, multivariate approach’
Dr Xiaowei Fu will speak about ‘Measurement and Quantification of Caking in Powders’ – an issue widely encountered by powder processors in all industries.
In addition, new research on quantifying the effect of flow additives will also be presented in the poster session. Flow additives, lubricants or glidants are often used in order to improve processability of powders. Magnesium Stearate is used extensively as a lubricant in manufacturing pharmaceutical tablets and the poster will describe a study designed to gain greater understanding of the effects of this additive.
